Born in Bologna (1956), Roberto Regazzi was initiated to violin-making by Otello Bignami in the seventies. After an intense period of study and perfectioning, his output has now reached a high standard, showing a marked personality. Owing to their easy, warm and carrying tone, his instruments are quite sought after by professional performers all over the world, most of them being soloists already owning fine old Cremonese instruments. His many publishing initiatives include a monograph on Giovanni Antonio Marchi's manuscript on violin making (Forni 1986), the most extensive critical bibliography for makers and dealers of stringed and plucked instruments (Florenus Edizioni 1990), and more recently, together with Sandro Pasqual, an important historical monograph about the old Bolognese makers ("Lutherie in Bologna: Roots & Success"). Re-elected President of the European Association of Violin and Bow Makers (AEL) in 1998, he has long since been active on a national and international level, with cultural activities which have seen him involved, among other things, as the Vice-president of the ALI Association. Roberto Regazzi is an active member of a number of societies, and a founder member of the Bolognese Group of Violinmakers. He is often invited to lecture in seminars and to take part on the jury of violinmaking competitions.
